Aiken Barnwell Mental Health Center and Wagener Medical Clinic Announce Partnership

Aiken Barnwell Mental Health Center (ABMHC) and Wagener Medical Clinic are excited to announce their partnership to provide the residents of Wagener and surrounding areas with quick access to quality and effective mental health care in their local community. Beginning November 12, 2019, mental health counselor Nicole Waters will be housed at the Wagener Medical Clinic and will offer an array of mental health services to children, adolescents, and adults.

ABMHC Executive Director Tamara Smith stated, “One in five adults and children in the US experiences mental illness each year. Stigma, lack of affordable treatment, and poor access to mental health care are three of the primary reasons that people do not seek mental health treatment. This partnership allows us to address those barriers in our community. ABMHC’s foundation is built on Recovery and the premise that mental health is essential to overall health. Our goal is to provide safe, effective, and evidence-based mental health care to alleviate symptoms and ensure patients’ best level of functioning. We’re excited to have the opportunity to co-locate with Wagener Medical Clinic and partner with the Town of Wagener.” Wagener Mayor Mike Miller said, “We feel that the addition of mental health services will have a positive impact on our community. I have heard multiple people comment on how much a relief it will be not to travel all the way to Aiken.”

Aiken Barnwell Mental Health Center and Wagener Medical Clinic will hold a ribbon cutting on Thursday, November 7, 2019 at 120 Louie Street in Wagener at 12:30pm. The public is invited to attend and meet the Mental Health staff.
