Wagener Pregnancy Care Ctr. Baby Bottle Campaign

Fill up a baby bottle with change to help make a difference.  The Wagener Pregnancy Care Center has kicked off our annual Baby Bottle Campaign.  The baby bottle campaign is used to help save the lives of the unborn, offer prenatal and parenting classes, teach purity to the girls and boys of our community through Pure Hearts Clubs and Brave Hearts Club and to help support other areas of ministry.

It is very simple, just stop by or call us 803.564.9722 to arrange to pick up empty baby bottles and fill them with your loose change.  The WPCC is a non-profit organization that is solely funded by individuals and churches.  Please help us help the future of our community -- children and youth.  This is a great local mission project for children, Acteens, GA's and Women's Ministry.  All donations are tax-deductible.

There was a special event at Wagener-Salley High School Tuesday, January 19.  Morgan Tyler, a senior on the War Eagles softball team, signed a letter of intent to continue playing in college at USC Salkehatchie.  "I'm excited.  I never thought I'd get to do this," Tyler said of the chance to play softball beyond high school.  "When I got the opportunity, I was thrilled."   Tyler was joined at the signing -  held in Wagener-Salley's library - by her parents as well as school administrators and members of the faculty.

"She's one of our leaders," said Wagener-Salley softball coach Veronica Cooper.  "She knows the fundamentals and is an outstanding player."

Tyler is primarily an outfielder, but can play either corner infield position and has a growing role as a pitcher.  She said she expects to be used exclusively in the outfield but is willing to do anything asked of her.

Town of Wagener Thanks Former Mayor Steve Carver for 13 Years of Accomplishments

"Always remember that you're here for the entire town, so represent each person, each family, each area and each business equally."

Former Mayor Steve Carver gave a few words of advice to incoming Mayor Mike Miller.  Carver, mayor of Wagener for 13 years, has seen a lot of changes in this small town, most of which he attributes to a long list of volunteers and both town employees and town citizens who consistently work hard for this community.

"Get help," Carver continued, "WDDC, Wagener Garden Club, WS JROTC, WS FFA, Crescent Cities Park Leadership and many more -- people want to help."  Carver encouraged Miller to pursue Grants, one of Carver's strong suits.  "My role as mayor was to constantly work to find projects that would match the needs of Wagener and then work with others to make these types of accomplishments happen."

Under Carver's leadership, Wagener received over three million dollars in grants, resulting in police and fire department improvements, park improvements, and energy, water and sewer improvements. Upon leaving office, Carver said these accomplishments were only possible by the hard work of the council members, the WDDC, the Wagener Garden Club, the citizens of Wagener, the Crescent Cities Park Leadership Group, the Wagener Fire Dept. and the town employees.

"It took everybody working together but Wagener is a better place than it was 13 years ago."

The town of Wagener thanks Steve Carver for all the years of self-sacrifice, unstoppable vision and genuine love for the people of Wagener.  Much thanks also to his wife and family for their patience, love and leadership.
