Alford Resigns from Aiken County School District

BOARD OF EDUCATION STATEMENT

The Board and Dr. Alford have reached an amicable resolution and Dr. Alford will resign effective September 13, 2019, to pursue other career opportunities. Dr. Alford wishes to thank the District for their support of him as superintendent during his years of service. The Board appreciates and acknowledges his excellent leadership and performance during his time as superintendent of Aiken County Public Schools.

DR. ALFORD STATEMENT

It has been the highest honor of my professional career to serve as Aiken County’s Superintendent.

To ensure that our relationship promoted the goals of the District and community, it has always been my goal to work collaboratively with the members of our Board of Education, both collectively and individually. We have not always agreed on every issue, and I certainly would never expect us to do so, but I have made every effort possible to hear the thoughts and concerns of each board member while considering the important decisions for our organization.

This is not an ideal circumstance for our organization, however, the Board is operating within their scope of responsibility to select a superintendent of their choosing. I am confident that our employees will carry on with the same excellence they have displayed during my tenure as superintendent with whoever is selected as the District’s future leader.

I wish our ONE TEAM family all the best in the future and look forward to celebrating Aiken County Public School’s continued success.

Dominion Energy Donates to Hollow Creek Fire Department

Personal Note from Hollow Creek Fire Dept. Chief Glenn Poole

The Lord has answered prayers! The Hollow Creek Fire Department didn’t have a clue as to how we were going to pay for the hoses to put on Engine 19-5 that we received from forestry, in a large part due to help from Ranger Andy Johnson.

Hollow Creek’s small budget just over $26,000 per year makes it very hard to do what needs to be done. But we made a call to Rep. Bill Taylor, telling him we needed help acquiring a hose for this truck. In return, Taylor called Senator Setzler and got him involved. Within two hours, Senator Setzler had the wheels in motion.

I have to give Senator Setzler credit for connecting me to Dominion Power and supporting this project. He is always by my side. Thank you, my friend.

I was put through to Ms. Angela Hayes at Dominion Power who talked with me for three days in a row and worked very hard in getting the help we need. She said it might take a little time. Three weeks later, we had our grant; that’s the fastest I’ve ever seen for getting a grant.

The fire department asked for $14,500 while believing it would require a miracle to get that. Well, it was a miracle from the Lord. We prayed and we received. On August 5, 2019, Mr. James Burns, with Dominion Power, presented a check for the full amount to the Hollow Creek Fire Dept. board chairman Jay Jackson and to myself.

Mr. James Burns is very much willing to help rural areas and it shows when you talk with him. Thank you, Mr. Burns!
