The town of Wagener congratulates Mayor Mike Miller, returning Councilman John Hudson, and new Councilman Marlon Hudson. The three were sworn in Monday night, January 4, 2010 by outgoing Councilman George Smith and now join Councilman Dave Heffron. A special election was held to replace Mike Miller as councilman for which Jack Atkinson ran unopposed negating the need for a vote. Councilman Jack Atkinson will be sworn in during the February meeting.
It is with warm memories and much sadness the town of Wagener says goodbye to Mrs. Nancy Bonnette. Nancy Rish Bonnette, the woman responsible for bringing a library to Wagener and for whom the library is named after, passed away December 22, 2009. Mrs. Bonnette was a gracious, generous lady, loved by all and we will miss her tremendously. Visitation and the funeral were held at First Baptist Church, December 26. In July, Chief Mark Redd and his four sons, Lt. Cody Redd, Lt. Brodie Red, Asst. Chief Russell Redd and Firefighter Scottie Redd competed in the SC State Firefighters Association's Annual Firefighter Challenge. Never before has a father and his four sons competed in this Challenge together. This family comraderie was a great example of our community's strong sense of family and family values.
The Wagener Women's Well, a Christ Central Ministry, was started to give women in our community a place to gather, praise God, share talents,and give instructions to help others learn new skills. Our mission is to give encouragement to those who are in need of a "better hope" in life and to help build confidence and trust through the leadership skills of caring mentors.
We are open 9-3 every Tuesday and Thursday except holidays. Join us for a soup lunch on Tuesdays or a covered dish lunch on Thursdays.
We'll resume activities in January 2010 with Bible studies on Monday nights where Deannie Shelton will lead Beth Moore's study on Esther. Bible studies on Thursday mornings will be held by Janice Johnson studying "Knowing the Will of God." Sewing and quilting will also resume for those who want to learn or just use our equipment.
The Women's Well welcomes women of all races, cultures and ages to experience the love of God.
The Nancy Bonnette Library's hours of operation will change effective January 2, 2010. The new hours are as follows: Mon - Thurs 12-6, Saturday 10-3. Closed Fridays.
